Radiography Program Updates

During spring break, a tour through Germany and France gave students a glimpse into the history of medical imaging, helping them understand the profession’s origins and evolution of safety in today’s practice. Other recent highlights include launching into clinical rotations, faculty research and hands-on learning.

Study Abroad

Students from all modalities joined a spring study abroad trip to Germany and France, as part of the History of Medical Imaging course. We visited the birthplace of Wilhelm Röttgen, where there is a phenomenal museum dedicated to the discovery of X-rays. Dean Amy Darragh, Ph.D., joined the students in Germany to support their educational journey. In Paris, we visited the Muse Curie, which highlights the pioneering research in radiation science of the entire Curie family. It was not all academics though. In both countries, students engaged in cultural enrichment activities including visits to castles, art museums and churches. Read our full coverage.

Discussions are under way for a potential alum trip that mirrors this spring break trip. Email Cherish Parham, Ph.D., if interested in traveling and/or being a part of the planning process.

Faculty Engagement

  • Program Director Cherish Parham defended her dissertation in November, earning a Ph.D. in allied health science from VCU College of Health Professions.
  • Radiography Instructor Jessica Koroma, ’10, graduated in May from the VCU School of Education, earning an M.Ed. in adult learning with a concentration in instructional design and technology.
  • Faculty presented at the Virginia Society of Radiologic Technologists, including Ian Lysinger presenting “The Multitudes of Orthopedic Knee Surgery” in April and Parham presenting original research on “Transgender Perceptions of Breast Health Care and Utilization of Preventative Imaging Services.”
