Radiography Program Updates: Winter 2026

Bridget Winkler has joined our program as our new clinic coordinator. She comes to us from the Bon Secours Radiography Program, where she spent several years shaping future technologists with her expertise and enthusiasm. In addition to her radiography background, she’s also a registered MRI technologist.

A Richmond native, Winkler brings a unique twist to our program with her background in theatre education. Yes, theatre. So, if you notice a little extra flair, impeccable timing, or a dramatic pause worthy of Broadway… now you know why.

Outside of work, Winkler loves spending time with her husband and their two little ones, who keep her laughing, learning and probably very caffeinated.

senior Radiography student Ashley RomeroRomero receives Elizabeth Meixner Scholarship

Elizabeth Meixner dedicated 35 years to educating and inspiring students in the Department of Radiation Sciences before her retirement. Generations of alumni had the privilege of learning from her, and her impact continues to shape our profession.

To honor her commitment to compassionate, knowledgeable patient care, Meixner endowed a scholarship recognizing a senior who exemplifies excellence through both technical skill and meaningful patient interactions. Eligible students must hold a minimum department GPA of 3.2 and a clinical GPA of at least 4.0, a standard that reflects the high bar she set throughout her career.

This year, senior Radiography student Ashley Romero was selected for this prestigious award. Romero’s dedication, professionalism and consistent pursuit of excellence make her an outstanding representative of Meixner’s legacy.

Class of 2028 prepares for clinic

This is our largest cohort in program history with 25 bright, curious and motivated students who are already showing tremendous promise.

Right now, students are diving into X‑ray basics, getting hands‑on with the equipment, learning how to move like professionals, and yes… having a little fun along the way. There have been plenty of “aha!” moments, a few dramatic tube‑angle discoveries, and more than one enthusiastic debate about SID.

Watching them explore, experiment and grow more confident each day has been a joy. If this is how they’re starting, clinic is in for a treat. The Class of 2028 is off to a strong start, and they’re already proving they’re ready for big clinic adventures ahead.

Sophomore radiography student Anna Nazzaro didn’t just show up to class, she surprised us with a batch of radiography‑themed cookies! They were as adorable as they were delicious.

Nazzaro brought the sweetness, the creativity and the school spirit. We might need to add “Baking Lab” to the curriculum at this point. The Radiography Program runs on caffeine, teamwork, and apparently now… Anna’s cookies.
