Nuclear Medicine Technology Program Updates: Winter 2026

New clinical affiliates expand learning, mentorship for students

The Nuclear Medicine Technology Program welcomed five new clinical affiliates, with these partnerships opening doors to high-tech, hands-on learning in nuclear medicine and PET. These affiliates also bring incredible mentorship from experienced technologists, including some amazing VCU alumni giving back. These represent more opportunities, more experience and more ways to grow. Our students’ clinical education just got even better.

  • James River Cardiology is Richmond’s premier cardiovascular practice, with three additional SPECT MPI sites and a dedicated PET/CT department. VCU’s partnership with Virginia Heart will also facilitate future access to its additional clinical locations. James River Cardiology is committed to fostering a strong relationship with VCU and engaging in recruitment efforts to hire graduates of the program.
  • The addition of UVA Health University Medical Center expands student access to a high-volume, technologically advanced clinical environment. With four gamma cameras and a PET scanner, students gain exposure to a wide range of imaging procedures across nuclear medicine and PET, supporting diverse and immersive clinical learning experiences.
  • Staffed by three full-time technologists with 100 years of combined experience, Bon Secours Memorial Regional Medical Center offers students mentorship grounded in decades of clinical expertise.
  • Bon Secours St. Francis Medical Center offers a well-balanced variety of nuclear medicine procedures, allowing students to develop mastery across multiple clinical areas – including cardiovascular, endocrine, gastrointestinal, genitourinary, pulmonary, skeletal and tumor localization.
  • Mary Washington Hospital gives students hands-on experience across a full range of nuclear medicine procedures – from cardiovascular to tumor localization – plus unique therapy experiences, ensuring a well-rounded clinical education.
